Methodology
Wright-Giemsa and Special Histology Stains
Useful for identifying hematologic abnormalities.

Specimen Requirements
Blood, bone marrow, and bone marrow biopsy are required for this test.
Specimens should arrive within 4 hours of collection, when possible.
Blood
Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send 3 mL of EDTA whole blood in original VACUTAINER(S)®. Invert several times to mix blood. Forward unprocessed whole blood promptly at ambient temperature. If there is a delay in transport of >2 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
Note: 1. A pathology/diagnostic report and a brief history are required for processing.
2. Label specimen appropriately (whole blood).
Bone Marrow
Place 1 mL of bone marrow in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send in original VACUTAINER(S)®. Invert several times to mix bone marrow. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. If there is a delay in transport of >2 hours, send specimen refrigerated.

Bone Marrow Biopsy
Submit bone marrow biopsy core specimen in 10% formalin. Forward promptly at ambient temperature. If there is a delay in transport of >2 hours, send specimen refrigerated.

2. Label specimen appropriately (bone marrow biopsy).
