Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred : Plasma
Container/Tube: Light-green top (lithium heparin gel)
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Centrifuge and separate plasma from cells within 2 hours of draw.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Alternate: Serum
Container/Tube: Red top or serum gel
Specimen Volume: 1 mL
Collection Instructions:
1. Centrifuge and separate serum from cells within 2 hours of draw.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
Reference Values
8.6 - 10.0 mg/dL
Critical values: <6.0 mg/dL or >13.0 mg/dL
