Methodology
Microparticle Enzyme Immunoassay (EIA)
Used as an aid in the prognosis and management of cancer patients in whom changing concentrations of CEA are observed.

Specimen Requirements
Serum: Collect blood in an SST or plain, red-top tube(s). (Grossly hemolyzed specimen is not acceptable.) Spin down and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
Stability: 48 hours at 2-8°C
Reference Values
Non-smoker: <3.0 ng/mL
Smoker: <5.0 ng/mL
