Methodology
Conventional Culture Technique
Identification and susceptibility testing will automatically be performed on appropriate pathogens at an additional charge.
Used in the detection and identification of common bacteria and yeast.

Specimen Requirements
Acceptable Specimens:
Intravenous, jugular, or subclavian
1. Submit a 2-inch distal segment of catheter by aseptically clipping off end of catheter directly into a screw-capped, sterile container at time catheter is removed. (Foley catheter tip is not acceptable.)
2. Label container with patient’s full name (first, last, and middle initial), medical record number (if available), date and time of collection, location of patient, and type and source of catheter.
3. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note: Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
