Methodology
Jaffe Rate Reaction
A renal function test to measure glomerular filtration rate (GFR).

Specimen Requirements
Plasma or serum and urine are required for this test. Plasma or serum specimen must be drawn during the 24-hour urine collection.
Urine
Submit an entire 24-hour urine collection. No preservative. Refrigerate specimen during collection, and send specimen refrigerated.
Note: 1. Starting and ending times of collection are required on request form for processing.
2. Follow instructions in “Urine Collection” in “Special Instructions” for 24-hour specimens.
Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
Preferred:
Plasma
Draw blood in a light green-top (lithium heparin gel) tube(s). Spin down, separate plasma from cells within 2 hours of draw, and send 1 mL of lithium heparin plasma refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
Alternate:
Serum
Draw blood in a plain, red-top tube(s) or a serum gel tube(s). Spin down, separate serum from cells within 2 hours of draw, and send 1 mL of serum refrigerated.
Note: 1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
