Specimen Requirements

1 mL of body fluid in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). If there is a delay in transport of >1 hour, send specimen refrigerated.

Note:  1. Cell counts should be performed as soon as possible since cells disintegrate quickly upon standing.

2. Indicate source of specimen on tube(s) and request form.

3.  Clumping of cells may occur if fluids are not submitted correctly which will impact the accuracy of cell counts.
