Specimen Requirements
Specimen must arrive within 4 hours of collection at ambient temperature.
Collect blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s), and send minimum 1 mL of EDTA whole blood. If there is a delay in transport of >4 hours, send specimen refrigerated.
Specimen is stable up to 24 hours if refrigerated.
Reference Values
Males
<50 years: 0-15 mm/hour
≥50 years: 0-20 mm/hour
Females
<50 years: 0-20 mm/hour
≥50 years: 0-30 mm/hour
Children and pregnant women may be slightly higher.
